New Album - New Music

'This Delicate Thing We’ve Made' out August.
Co Produced by Darren with Justin Shave and Robert Conley.
Mixed by Ash Howes.

"I'll tell you right now the plan is for this to be a double album. I had so much to say, and I didn't want to be constricted to just 12 songs. Who knows if that will be the case.. so don't kill me if in 6 months time I release a single album.. but at this stage, that is my plan. So the songs range from things begun after TTATS to things literally being written today.. They discuss the fragility of life.. our balance on the edge.. my own personal struggle and eventual emancipation.. and gratitude. And also have a fantastical and almost spirtual or ghost of the past like element to them. Think Kate Bush."

Darren Hayes is soon to begin a series of exclusive regular performances in London as part of a plan to showcase new material for his forthcoming album ‘This Delicate Thing We’ve Made’.

The Australian born singer songwriter is about to turn up the heat on the demand for his new album the old fashioned way : by road testing it in front of a tiny audience.

In a series of exclusive and intimate twice monthly club performances, Darren will regularly take over residency of a famous London venue with a night specially created for him : ‘Delicacy’.

With only 150 tickets available to each performance it goes without saying that demand will far exceed supply. But that’s apparently just how Hayes wants it.
With dates beginning in March, Darren will continue performances all the way up to the release of his new album in August this year.

“I want to road test new material and play songs that I haven’t performed in years.   And hopefully throw a few surprises in as well.  After almost 5 months locked away in the studio, I’m ready to stretch my wings. I love the new songs and I can’t wait to get out there and debut them live”.

Those lucky enough to score tickets will be treated to an eclectic mix of brand new music,  reinvented older tunes and maybe even a few quirky surprises.

Demand for tickets is expected to be high – with only a limited number  sold prior to each performance.  The rest will be available on the door and via exclusive MySpace only random invitation.   Those who miss out need not shed a tear.  Hayes intends staging much larger shows in the U.K in September and the rest of the world in 2008.

Stay tuned to and for exclusive news regarding Venue, ticket availability and also similar regular intimate dates in New York.

Album title revealed in press release

"Darren Hayes could never be accused of doing anything by convention. In a music industry terrified by ever decreasing sales, where budgets are being slashed and the dumbing down of artistry is commonplace - Hayes has pulled out all the stops and recorded an epic and theatrical double album.

He has defiantly said no to the seductive invitation of the majors and is instead gearing up to release his latest album on his very own independent label ‘Powdered Sugar’. Darren Hayes is doing things his own way. And he wants everyone to know about it.

His upcoming album ‘This Delicate Thing We’ve Made’ is an ambitious and cinematic opus. Featuring 25 bold and wildly extravagant pop songs that are already being compared in scope to the work of heroes Kate Bush and David Bowie. And perhaps most fascinatingly, was recorded with a strict commitment to a particular piece of technology as muse and inspiration – a vintage 1983 Fairlight CMI Synthesizer, a clunky synth relic that he scored off EBay. The same model that was at the heart of Kate Bush’s pivotal recording ‘The Hounds of Love’ "

The Album Mix begins this week!

Darren is mixing his record London with mixer/producer Ash Howes.

Ash has been involved in some pretty amazing pop records such as the Kylie Minogue album 'Fever' and the soundtrack to the Baz Luhrmann film Moulin Rouge. Recently he did some production and mix of the gorgeous Nelly Furtado song 'All good things'.

They will be working for 6 weeks straight on the 25 songs in a West London studio.

"New Years Resolution

I'm going indie. After 10 years of being a part of the major label system I've decided that my next record is going to be released independently.

I've met with a couple of major labels and although I've been really flattered by their interest - the idea of doing this on my own terms is really appealing to me.

I feel lucky that the commercial success of my past has allowed me the financial freedom to record my new record independently. It makes artistic sense for me to retain the creative freedom and control I've enjoyed recently and continue forging ahead on my own terms.

My new double record will be released worldwide on my own label Powdered Sugar in August 2007.

It feels so good to be able to finally say that! xD"

News from Sunday Mail

Hayes's new double album will be wrapped up next month, mixed in January and released by the middle of the year on a new label. The label deal will be announced next month.

"It's loosely a conceptual record that is based on my obsession with the Fairlight computer (digital sampling instrument)," he said.

"There's only about 400 of them left in the world. There is something about the limitations of having to use an old sampler.

"It's given the record a real sound of its own. It's not like I'm making a retro record, but there's definitely a sense of recapturing something."

News from

Darren Hayes in the studio with fresh new talent and a time machine making an epic double record.

In a famous London studio where gold and platinum discs of some of the biggest English records in pop history adorn the walls, Darren Hayes is holed up with new producer Justin Shave and a relic from the past: A Fairlight CMI Synthesizer.

For those unfamiliar with the instrument, in the early 80's this prototype sampler was the backbone of cutting edge electronic records by artists such as Peter Gabriel, Nick Rhodes, Jean-Michel Jarre and Kate Bush, to name but a few.

And this instrument has become the centerpiece of Hayes' new sound.
